10 FAQs about Brisbane Skip Bins

News > 10 FAQs about Brisbane Skip Bins

Q1: When and where can skip bins be delivered in and around Brisbane?

Brisbane skip bins can be delivered to most if not all suburbs/shires around Brisbane, Monday to Saturday into wherever accessible with the various sized trucks we have. Generally skips are delivered into driveways, or positioned onto the footpath (council regulations apply). We also deliver to all businesses, offices, factories, and building sites.

We recommend that you get the skip bin delivered the day before you need it.  This is especially the case if you are arranging for tradespeople or machinery who need the bin to do their work.  It is far better to have the bin ready to go than for people to be left standing around waiting.

We also offer an out of hours service to accommodate any contractual constraints you have with your project so call us on (07) 3503 6769.

Q2: What size of skip bin should be used?

We always suggest that you get a skip bin that is slightly larger than the volume of waste you have estimated that you want to get rid of. It is too easy to underestimate the amount of waste you have and having to get another smaller bin is a more expensive option.

Several different skip sizes including 2,3,4,5,6,8 and 10 cubic metre skip bins are available.  We also have bins with doors that are easier to load if you are disposing of sand, soil bricks or concrete. Typically builders use 6 cubic metre skips, whereas householders generally hire around 4 or 5 cubic metres.

Q3: When does the Brisbane City Council require a Permit to place a skip on their nature-strip or footpath?

Always, for a bin to be placed on a footpath a permit is required by the local council. We will organise permits and they are done as part of the service at no extra charge usually.

Q4: What waste should I keep out of the Brisbane skip bins?

In accordance with environment legislation, Asbestos, tyres, liquids, paints, or general hazardous materials can not be put is the skip bins at all.  Most all other wastes such as greenery can be mixed with household and construction/demolition wastes.

Q5: What is the best way to get rid of asbestos wastes?

We have service providers who are fully licensed for the supply and disposal of asbestos skips. These skips can be hired, much the same as normal skips and are supplied with a plastic liner, and loading advice to accommodate your asbestos waste. Upon the skips collection we take care of all the environmental paperwork for you. However, asbestos is not to be mixed with other waste and must be kept in a separate skip. We are pleased to offer advice on any waste related problem with by our fully qualified staff.

Q6: Are there any special tips for loading Brisbane skip bins?

Yes. All skips are to be loaded no higher than the rim. With nothing protruding from any direction, and all waste to be fully contained within the skips capacity. There is no exception to this rule under transport law.
Overloaded skips are not lifted and extra charges are applied in the event of overloads.

Q7: How long can I keep a skip?

Skips are generally hired out for up to 7 days. Upon delivery there will be a `pick up day` (as arranged with the customer) is written on the docket, so you know when we'll be back to collect the skip..
Some people prefer shorter hires to do their work and get the skip out of the way, others prefer the full hire.
Longer hire is available and we would be pleased to advise customers on request if extended hire is required.

Q8: How much notice is required for skip hire?

24hrs notice is usually required for deliveries, change-overs, or collections. We do our utmost to accommodate people on tight schedules and work with you; however, we always appreciate as much notice as possible.
